After many weeks of prep, we finally got “Perfect Match” moved from Lake Travis, near Austin, to her new home at Lake Belton, TX. It took a long time to find a trailer, modify it, and make all of the arrangements for the move. All the while, the water level at Travis was dropping every day (58’ below full right now). For those of you familiar with the lake, there is not an operational lift remaining at any of the marinas. There are only two ramps that are open, and those marinas have had to resort to extraordinary measures to keep them operating. It’s a sad situation.
We ended up using a ramp at the Austin Yacht Club that was supposedly built in the 50s, then rediscovered when the lake level dropped so low. The ramp is extremely shallow however, and prevented us from getting the trailer deep enough to correctly float the boat onto the bunks. Notice how deep the truck is; couldn’t use a strap because the ramp is gravel and there’s no wheel on the trailer jackstand. We added Styrofoam blocks under the hull to lift it onto the bunks, then pulled slowly out of the water. We dropped the mast, then moved ever so slowly to the shop to remove the Styrofoam and finalize the fitting of the bunks. Fred Schroth, at Schroth Fiberglass, was the brains behind the Styrofoam idea, then generously offered his workshop with overhead lift to do the trailer fitting. I can’t say enough good things about Fred, a true gentleman who saved the day for us. We had to use a strap to launch at the new marina, but with a concrete ramp it was no problem.
It was a two day process, in 105 degree temps, but it’s 7 minutes from house to slip now—versus 1.5 hours to Lake Travis. Finally feel like we can start enjoying the boat!

When I bought my boat it was on lake Travis and the lake was down 45 feet and we used a rocky shoreline and long chain to retrieve it. (Trailer has large front wheel on screw jack), then a hoist to get is situated on the trailer properly. The low water in the Texas lakes can be a real challenge some times.
