A new way to cook on-board and requires no propane or electricity. :)

I guess you starve on a cloudy day. Seriously where is the grate?

It's suspended above the reflectors where the suns energy is focused. One pan at a time. There's a larger version and some other pans you can use to cook more food at once.

So I guess cooking is limited to pans only and mid day?

Says it will work from 1 hour after the sun rises to 1 hour before the sun sets.

I didn't read the whole website but I'm betting one could figure out how to bake with it. Maybe even cook a steak if there's a way to catch the drippings.

EDIT: Seems to be ways to do a lot of things...

These days just put the meal on the dashboard of your car - will cook in no time!

"Works with many camping cookware" ...unless it's reflective stainless steel or silver aluminum. I see a lot of "holes" in this...

For a 5th(?) grade science project, I made a little 8-10" solar collector and tested it with a little wad of Keenex--it exploded and burned the my eyebrows and the front of my hair to ash. The potential is there!

You got that right!

You back in the Canyon Lake area or still out on the road?

Synchronicity is well coincidental! I was at the local library with my daughter last week perusing to magazines (remember those!?!?) and I came across a magazine called Home Power that includes articles about solar electric, solar water heating, energy conservation, micro-hydro and geothermal projects for homeowners.

In it was a detailed letter to the editor about a nonegrenarian named Sam Erwin who developed a solar powered stove called the StarFlower that has 8-12 convex petal-shaped adjustable mirrors with a glass enclosed cooking platform that can be used to roast, bake and boil your food.

Yes, you'd better have some PB&J sandwiches for backup on a rainy day, but you can prepare meats, veggies and diced potatoes in/on this thing.

And you can't grill up a dozen burgers and dogs, but more often than not there are just 2-3 of us aboard our smallish boats. Between something like the Flower and a single burner butane stove, you'd be surprised how much you can potentially prepare for a small group.

Last year I made sliced boiled potatoes with parsley and butter and succotash on the butane stove, and my son grilled two 8oz steaks on a 12" round charcoal grill.

It always tastes better on the boat.
