Can you tell I am doing spring boat chores?

I am curious at what tire pressure folks run their tire tires.

I have a double axle trailer with 4 215/75D14 tires.

The only pressure marking on the tire states that max load is 1870# at 50 psi cold.

Suggestions?

Dale,

I have a C250WB with double axle trailer.
I think my trailer have the same tires that also have 50psi max.
I use 45psi, but I only trailer locally and not on the highway.

I pull mine to Florida and back (MI) every year and my tire guys tell me to run what it says on the tires. Mine say 60 lbs. so that is what I use. No tire problems.

Mine are rated at 50psi. I run 50 psi when trailering and then let the pressure off to about 35 while it sitting in the yard.

You could weigh the trailer with the boat and do some math. I usually run max in trailers unless they are way over rated for their load. I have also even purposely aired them down 10 or 15 lbs on dirt or rough roads. Just watch your speed so the tires don't heat up. Air pressure is always relevant to surface area of the tire and weight.

Thanks all! I do put on highway miles (I have about 75 minutes of highway driving to launch - not to mention 8 hours up to the San Juan Islands every year).

So, I think 48 psi will be my answer...

Why not 50? The general recommendation is to keep the tires at their rated pressure.

Yeah, 50. Put in what it says on the tire. I know it sounds like alot, but they need it.

On page 889 of the 2015-2016 west marine catalog it says single axel tires can handle 100% of their rated load. Duel axes tires must have their loads reduced by 12% below rated amount.

Ok, sorry I haven't replied to my own thread. Too busy working and sailing. :)

I got the boat safely launched at 48psi, but will take the advice of the collective and pump them up to 50 cold for my trip to the San Juans in June (9 hours each way).

Thanks for the feedback!
