Hi all...

Progressing on getting the beautiful Island Dreams back online...

Raised the mast today and when getting ready to hang the boom - the crew noted that something was amiss...

Here is a pic (sorry for oversize)...

Perhaps am I missing a plastic sleeve in there that connects to the gooseneck fitting on the mast?

I have already sent an email to catalina direct asking for advice...

But does someone already know what I am up against to get this back on track?

Best to all,

Carl

Looks like you're missing the gooseneck clip.

Bummer...

Hopefully the crew at Catalina Direct can identify the part and quickly source a replacement.

why does your goose neck look like a Gooseneck Casting C-270
part # 2019 ?
am I wrong, or is that the wrong boom ?

let me correct this post.
the part you show on the boom is part # H2019.{this is for a Cat 27}
the part you need on your Boom, catalina 250,
is part # H1865 (Cat 250).
Then you,ll need part # Z2063.

hope this helps.

Thanks Kevin and Dave...

Yes, the gooseneck is the same as they used on the 270 per the crew at Catalina Direct (for some boats during 2007)...

Here is half of the gooseneck that I was able to find on board...

Having trouble with the pic link - here is the dropbox link... https://www.dropbox.com/sc/q0ub6r9hrxo10pr/AAAzFk2vUJ2PLxr6IOP9pDyea

So I went ahead and ordered the replacement gooseneck which was a bit pricey. At least it has several other spare parts for the boom rollers...

OK - hopefully I can get my pics working from dropbox - changing the www to dl does not seem to work this evening... (it's working - copy link from different part of dropbox)

Anyway - with the half gooseneck in place and the boom zip-tied into place - I'm thinking a section of 1-inch schedule 40 PVC pipe will get the job done for the second half...

Hate to be a hack but that replacement is pricey - could the pipe segment work?

(I'm not that much of a hack - I have already bought the real replacement - but if I can use a piece of pipe - why not just keep the repair kit in stock)

You may be one unintentional gybe away from tragedy. I'd only go with the genuine parts, and save the jury rigging for other non-structural items.

Your gooseneck looks totally different from the stock unit. How do you twist your boom? And where is the shackle for securing your tack?

The stock hardware looks like this. If your is different, you need to find the compatible parts:

Carl,
The gooseneck that Rick (Take Five) has shown is the same as my boat Hull-793 (2005).
It looks like Catalina changed the design to match the C270.
The good news is the reef clutch, outhaul clutch, and topping lift clutch look like a better design than the original.
The original Jiffy Reef system wasn't the best.

Did they change the design? When? Or perhaps, someone switched out a boom or gooseneck from a 270 as a jury rig.I've seen some "solutions" to problems that are Whiskey Tango Foxtrot...

Hi All... missed a few days from checking on the post...

A week ago Catalina Direct sent the C270 gooseneck kit which had the right parts for the boom on 922...

Today made it back to the boat and installed - easy-peasy - perfect fit.

Glad that loose-end is behind me (get it)...

Carl

Thanks Dave...

... BTW - did you notice that nice new Stay-Set 1/4-inch topping lift?

Oh yeah, new running rigging to bring this lady back...
