Hauled out yesterday afternoon. Getting colder. My last sail was two weeks ago in a 40 mph squall of all things. I had the vhf on , and as we entered the slightly calmer waters of aquia creek, I heard one side of a conversation with the coast guard. It was ominous hearing "How many souls aboard?". Three fishermen were lost in the lower potomac that afternoon when their boat capsized. Scary stuff!
Fouling was particularly heavy this year. Probably due to me not using the boat for 2 months when I had hurt my arm.
Looks to me like the red is his his color (not necessarily a signal coat) and the darker stuff is slime. The barnacles are not thick at all... But the combination of slime and some barnacles suggests time for a new coat of dual-biocide paint.

That bottom looks great compared to mine after a year on VC-17m. What paint do you use?
vc-17m. funny thing last year it was very clean. I think that last year i used the boat more. this year giving sailing lessons on someone else's boat while being out of action for two months took its toll.

yep it is slime. should've cleaned mid-season, but circumstances did not allow. the blue is the signal coat.
BTW this fouling made a significantly noticeable effect on speed. I know many sailors who claim they dont care about the "hundreth of a knot because they are not racing". Well, it is a much greater loss than that. last year i regulary saw 6.5 on the uncalibrated paddlewheel. only way i got it this year was downwind surfing with the waves.
