I didn't know there was a bilge drain plug. Maybe yours is a modification by a PO? Can you post a photo?

It was located under the removable floor plate next to where the swing keel comes up. I can't show you a picture because it was removed by someone who did some fiberglass work on the interior of the boat a few years ago. He said it was used to drain any water that was in this bilge area when the boat was hauled out. This area seems to hold some water and I am not able to install a bilge pump in this area due to space restrictions.

So is there a threaded collar, and you're missing the plug to screw into it--like one of these?

The one on the right would probably be the best for that application. There are others in the WM site.

The way I understand his answer was that at some time someone put a drain plug into the boat. Later on The drain plug was then removed and the hole was fiberglassed over. Now he wants to put a drain plug back. Maybe he thinks the bilge is suppose to have a drain plug.

The bilge of a C-25 is supposed to be dry. Typical sources of water collecting there are: leaking windows or deck fittings, leaking lower rudder gudgeon, leaking scuppers, leaking thru-hull fittings or hoses, and rain water leaking in around the companionway. The best way I know to remove water from the bilge is using a pump or wet/dry vac.
I agree there is little room there for a bilge pump, but you can snake in a portable pump or vac hose to remove water before/after sailing.

Also, it is a good idea to keep all thru-hull valves closed while sailing, especially the thru-hull valve under the galley.

Get a Whale Super sub bilge pump. It works fine and fits in the tight bilge area.
