Regarding the backstay, should there be a toggle at the masthead end? I couldn't find any references to that question.

I'm very close to stepping the mast for the 1st time, thanks to all for the info on various topics.

I learned years ago to have a selection of cast and stamped toggles in my parts bin. I have never added a toggle to the top but have added them to the bottoms of both the forestays and backstays.

The should be a pin on the back of the chicken head. Put the eye of the back stay end fitting through the pin. I do not use a toggle.
