I am thinking of installing some halyards running up to my spreaders. Might be useful for flying club burgees, or possibly a radar reflector (if a 20' high radar reflector does any good). I figured I might pop rivet a loop to the bottom of each spreader, to which I could shackle a small block for the halyard.
Have any of you done this? Got any suggestions? Where should I run the halyard - mast step plate, or stanchion base?
Do any of you have other suggestions for where to install a radar reflector? I've been tempted to put one near the top of the backstay, but not sure if my mainsail might collide with it. I don't want to put something up there that requires me to drop the mast once the boat's in the water.

My flag halyard is just a tiny cheap block secured to the spreader with a zip-tie. Cheap, zero damage to anything, and trivial to install.
I was starting to lean toward lashing a cheap block. The zip tie is an interesting alternative, though I'd be concerned about it loosening up over time, especially with the foil shape of the C250 spreader.
Any suggestions on specs for the halyard? 3/16" double braid, maybe? Or just cheap stuff from Home Depot?

I just use the 3mm utility line (not cheaper paracord) sold by most rope manufacturers. It's plenty strong for holding up a flag and inexpensive. There is a clip on either end and a cleat on my lower shroud.
I think you'll be fine with a zip tie unless the C250 spreader has an aggressive taper.
I hang my radar reflector from my backstay (you'll see this same configuration on most racing sailboats).

I bought two cheap clothesline pulleys from Home Depot and lashed them with 1/8" polyester line from West Marine. The zip ties would have probably worked, but I thought a few lashes with line would be less likely to loosen and/or slide along the spreader. I added a little duct tape to provide even more friction, and to prevent any galvanic corrosion between the pulley and the aluminum spreader.
The mast went up this evening, so I'm not changing it.
How do you guys recommend attaching a burgee to the halyard?
