while working on my bright work I placed 2 razor blades on the nonskid next to my winch and yes forgot them for a week. needless to say the dew caused them to rust and leave 2 perfect impressions of the blades in the gel coat. The stains are in the nonskid so sanding isn't an option any ideas. I really don't want to paint as the area isn't painted now. Baking soda doesn't work goof off either.

I suggest you forget about it and go sailing. It will probably fade away completely after weathering for a year or two. If you insist on trying to remove it, you'll probably damage the gelcoat to some extent. Looking at it every time you sail for the next two years will improve your memory.

Greetings
Try some Commet cleanser with a brush - it will take a while scrubbing but it should get it out. Afterwards it will leave the gelcoat a bit dull, you can use one of the WM anti-oxidant cleaners to restore it like new.

If your man enough Muriatic acid soaked on a paper towel. Let it sit on the stain for 15min and stain will be gone.This works on my pool fiberglass. I've heard that putting salt on it and covering the salt with lemon juice soaked in a paper towel works but you have to leave it for 24hrs.I haven't tried that one. Do not use anything containing bleach it will make it worse.

Oxalic acid is the best.

Tomas your right, I must have had a senior moment when I said Muriatic acid. Barkeepers friend found in any supermarket contains Oxalic acid.

I had success with removal of a smallish rust stain on my 250 with a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser.

And if you can't get it all off with any of the above chemicals - as Steve Milby mentions above - the sun will eventually bleach it white again . . .

Have had rust stains on non-skid before. Found that Clorox clean-up w/bleach squirted on helped. Used a pocket knife to scrub in between the bumps of the non-skid. Tedious but worked. Stainless steel wire brush might help too. It is after all the non-skid part of deck so no need to be polished.

For me Barkeepers Friend worked well. I was also reading the instructions for spotless stainless and they said it would remove rust stains. It worked great on the stainless and realy good on rust stains in gel coat. I think it is high in citric acid as the active ingredient.
