I will be in Toronto this weekend and looking to hookup with a fellow Catalina owner for a hardy sail. I'm not sure if "winter sailing" is as popular in Toronto as it is on the west coast, but thought I would throw it out there...
So, after scouring the marinas and charter businesses in Toronto, I can report that there doesn't seem to be much appetite for "winter sailing" there.
This might sound crazy, but I very much enjoy cold weather sailing on the west coast. Very few boats to contend with through the passes, anchorages all to yourself and a different kind of solitude felt while underway.
We hit a high of 87° in Miami today, but tomorrow's expected to be around 76°. This won't last much past Dec for me but I'm soaking up as much warm weather as I can before having to settle back into the deep freeze.Short
That looks like great sailing weather to me islander. It's above freezing, nice stout breeze, though a little damp (it'll make it feel colder).
I had a great sail last Sunday in Seattle (temp was in the upper 30s to lower 40s, about 15 knots of wind). We don't pull our boats out, last year I sailed on both Christmas and New Years.
5.5' - 9.5' at 5 seconds is going to be a little more than "damp"! My 27' boat has a windshield, wipers, hardtop and side curtains... I'm staying home!
