my sister in law jokingly complained to me. I told her:
the rocket was under command, not constrained by draft, and not restricted in ability to manuever. so the rocket is the give way vessel.

Wow. Bad news. Yes, it was unmanned, but I'm sure the ISS needed the supplies. It's not like they can call out to Domino's or something.

Even worse ... we were out tonight and darn it exploded on the launch pad (or six seconds into its flight).

If the delay resulted in a defect in the systems to become catastrophic, is the boat skipper liable?

Hope he has Boat US insurance

Not sure. But apparently this was not the only delay, since they had to wait for Gustavo to pass. It's hard to make a case that adding one extra day of delay on top of several weeks was the key factor in this catastrophe.

Very sad about the explosion. This morning they said that the crew on the space station will not be in danger because of the delay in sending the supplies to them, that they have ample consumables on board.

That was a private company who has a contract to supply the ISS since NASA is out of the rocket game. They use old refurbished Russian engines....
