This week we should be seeing true fall sailing conditions in CT and the Northeast. Tomorrow brisk Northwesterlies with temps in the 60s are forecast, and the weather situation looks to ensue for the coming week. Usually, we see the end of summer-like sailing conditions around the Columbus Day weekend (Oct 11-13). I've been working out of state, but sailing on weekends and plan to have that long weekend off. I will do an overnight if the weather cooperates. Two weeks later, I plan to haul Passage out for the winter. For those not in the sunbelt, what are your plans?
Well Bruce, I put in my haul out for the week of 11/3 so I have to take the sails off probably the weekend of the 1-2nd. Just seems like yesterday we dropped your mast. Sure goes fast.
Today I scheduled my haulout for 10/25 at 2 pm high tide.
Not sure how much sailing I'll get done before then. We do have a 5-day cruise planned with friends on her Mason 44 in mid-October, so that will be nice. But all the stuff we need to do at work and around the house to prepare for that trip will prevent us from sailing our own boat.
Mine is scheduled for 10/9. We went up to strip the sails and drop the mast Saturday, but the wind was blowing athwartship at about 35 and mid forties temp. My hands were numb by the time we wrestled the Genoa off. I decided that $3 a foot didn't seem as bad as it did when the weather was nicer. A modest family emergency kept me home the previous weekend when it was 70 and calm. At least the sails are off.
Tomorrow Sunday is expected to be sunny, cool (60s) and breezy (N-10). I wish it looked like csmcg's sailing ground, but I'll take LI Sound in the fall.

I just called the haulout marina today and checked on my schedule. Originally asked for Nov 1, then looked at the tide chart - there will be less than 3ft of water 1/2 way up the river that day - so that will not work for my 4' fin keel. So I revised my date to Oct 25 and I got a long pause... "It's possible, it's possible" he said. My sailing season may be a little longer than expected! I'll hope for nice weather in November!!!!
Near perfect weather here on FL's Spacecoast this weekend and I have to work. A group of sailors from the Marina took off for 10+ hour sail to Ft Pierce yesterday for the weekend and all I could do is wave good-bye from the dock...I thought I retired.

Tonight W winds around 15 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft. Sun NW winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 30 kt. Seas 2 to 3 ft.
Fall sailing for me seems to have turned into many days of over the top wind conditions..Another weekend tied to the dock
Great weather here and I've got Home chores to do.. Maybe Sunday.
A beer stein holds my beer bottle ( or my drink ) on the floor just outside the companionway, and keeps it somewhat cool. When tacking the stein bottom is heavy enough to keep it from toppling over as it slides to the downwind side. Still working after many plastic versions of drink holders have long since broken...
Self tacking stein.... now that's what I call German Engineering!
We picked a great weekend to cruise with friends on their Mason 44. We're seeing 3' seas in the Chesapeake, but this boat is built for it. Would love to upsize someday, but not willing (or able) to swing $10,000 annual maintenance costs.
Will head over to Bodega Bay Ca. Monday. I plan to pull her out in the last week of Oct. The exact day depends on weather and tide conditions as I need 6' of water and a long, submerged ramp to get her out. The seas are 10+ now and will probably be so for some time so no sailing I would think. Got to get ready to go to Arizona for the winter! ha Will leave with travel trailer last week of Dec. and stay to April. Later, Chief
We were planning on a 4 day trip around the Bay area (Biscayne) but Sailflow is predicting some pretty grotty weather, so we may postpone it till mid November / Thanksgiving.
So we went out for one last camping trip on our beautiful Lake Tahoe and it was a perfect fall weekend. Sailing and SUP in the early hours. Now it's time to get ready for the ski season.
