Its supposed to get down to 21 F tonight, so I went out to my C-25 and drained the fresh water tank. I simply pumped it dry from the galley sink - about 1,000 strokes.

Is there an easier way to do this? Its a real pain pumping out a 30 gallon tank 4oz at a time.

if the boat is out of the water... How about simple gravity, put a hose in the tank through a cleaning access hole, and put the other end outside below the water tank level and suck the water through vacuum and let go!... I understand that would work great while the boat is on a trailer... like mine.

Here’s a pump that I picked up for extracting water or oil. Somewhere around $10-15, depending on where you get one.

As pointed out above there are many ways to empty the tank. Another way is to simply add a piece of hose to the end of your bilge pump hose with a hose barb. Drop the hose into the tank and use your manual bilge pump to pump it out. Here is a photo of the cap on top of the tank. If I remember it is 3".

I do the same as Angus. I use a hand pump marketed for draining oil out of a sump. It has a 4 foot suction hose. I can reach my arm partway into the tank, and actually get the hose into the bottom corner such that there is maybe a tablespoon of water left in the tank after I am done.

I access my tank below the settee, unscrew the big cap and use a high volume hand pump to get most of it out.
