Not having any luck finding the tiller tamer of my liking I fabricated one using a vice-grip. Actually it was Johanna who came up with the idea

Instead of fastening the tiller tamer to the tiller we have used a "custom fit", plastic cap that fit over top of the tiller and held in place with a shock-cord. It works "easy on easy off" and no hassle with the canvas tiller cover.

In my case the boat is 2000 miles from home and don't know the exact tiller measurement

It still needs some refinements but it will work until I can locate or make one similar to what we had

Johanna calls it her "Chinook" Tiller Tamer, since with a bit of imagination it resembles a salmon

Just bought a couple of cold galvanizing spray bottles which contains a 93% self sacrificing zinc component. It is the best product bar none to prevent rust on anything including boat trailers, etc.

Besides, where we are going there won't be any briny water

Yes. In 5-6 years he’ll need to replace that component for about a dozen bucks.
