I was able to detach the swing keel from my C-250 WB to gain access for removing the frozen turning ball and replacing the broken lifting
pennant block...all showing salt water corrosion. On inspection, I've found the hole in the steel plate embedded in the keel has egged-out over time. I'm wondering if anyone has either replaced the plate all together, or simply drilled another hole as a secondary attachment point for the lifting pennant. Anyone else dealing with this issue and what were your remedies?

I'm working on replacing the two starboard threaded weldments due to corrosion as well and not enough thread to safely hang the bronze keel pivot. Catalina Direct technical was not very helpful at the time, so I just "dove-in" with my burr grinder.

I would love to attach pictures of my work, but unable to figure it out for this posting. Thanks for any help!

To protect against stray currents we added a self sacrificing zinc to the centerboard suspension assembly... by the looks of the zinc it gets bombarded and attacked in salt marina's

Could the corrosion/rusting have been caused by electrolysis from improperly installed batteries or zinc not having been replaced?

Paul
I've been thinking about your center board suspension. After looking at your photo's I have a hard time understanding what could have caused such substantial rusting/oxidizing problem. It seems the entire surface bolt plate has been eaten away leaving little grip for the mounting bolts. I'm sorry that I do not have a solution without further investigation
