Q.  What is the Catalina 25/250 National Association?

A.  The Catalina 25/250 National Association is a non-profit owners association made up of Catalina 25 and Catalina 250 owners.  It is organized to promote the enjoyment of sailing, cruising and racing by establishing and maintaining design standards and specifications in order to ensure competition between boats of identical design and performance in all essential areas such as hull lines, weights and sail plan.  The association was charted in 198? and currently boasts over 700 members.


Q.  Who is eligible to join the Catalina 25/250 National Association?

A.  All individuals are welcome to become members of the Catalina 25/250 National Association.  A Regular Member has privileges of holding office and voting. He may command a Catalina 25/250 sloop in sanctioned races, in accordance with the By-Laws. He must be an owner or a part owner of either a Catalina 25 or Catalina 250, and also be a Corinthian (amateur yachtsman). The term "regular member" is to include the spouse of the owner.  An Honorary Member is a person, usually a non-owner of a Catalina 25/250, who joins the Association because of any interest in the welfare of the class. An Honorary Member, as such, may not vote on any matters, hold office, or represent the Fleet as skipper, but may as crew.


Q.  What is a Catalina 25?

A.  The Catalina 25 was manufactured by Catalina Yachts between 1977 and 1990.  Over 6,000 hulls were produced during this fourteen year stretch.  Keel options included the fin, wing and swing; a standard and tall rig were available.  Some late model Catalina 25s were powered by factory-option auxiliary diesels.  A very popular model with traditional styling, this model is still highly sought today.  Current prices generally range from $5,000-$10,000.


Q.  What is the Catalina 250?

A.  The Catalina 250 is the successor to the Catalina 25.  Catalina Yachts began production of this model in 1994 and continues to manufacture them today.  About 500 hulls have been produced through May 2000.  This model is available with a wing keel or in the water-ballasted centerboard configuration.  The wing keel was originally available with either a standard or tall rig.  Today, both wing keel and centerboard versions are available in standard rig only.


Q.  Who is Catalina Yachts?

A.  Catalina Yachts, established in 1972, is based in Woodland Hills, California and has produced over 65,000 yachts since its inception.  It is a privately-held firm and has remained under the close control of its founder, Frank Butler, for nearly a quarter century.  During this same time, many competing manufacturers of production sailboats have gone by the wayside.  Catalina Yachts builds Catalina, Capri and Morgan yachts in both its Woodland Hills, CA, and Largo, FL, production facilities.   Catalina Yachts can be reached at:

Q.  What are the benefits to membership in the Catalina 25/250 National Association?

A.  All members are entitled to an annual subscription to the Mainsheet Magazine (published quarterly), the association's quarterly TellTale email newsletter, discounts at BoatUS, and unlimited access to the association website.  Regular members are also entitled to participate in the National Regatta as well as regional one-design regattas.  Current membership is only $20.
